Alpaca and linen

Alpaca linen yarn is spun from both Baby Alpaca fiber and linen fiber. This uniquely combines the wonderful properties of two very different types of fiber. The proportion of Baby Alpaca fiber in the blended yarn is 70% and linen is 30%. The yarn is spun at Michell Group in Peru.

Baby Alpaca fiber is light, pleasantly soft, and effectively regulates temperature. Alpaca fiber has particularly good thermal regulation capabilities. Thanks to the crimped structure of the fiber, air pockets are trapped between the fibers, acting as insulation. Alpaca fiber repels water and dirt, and does not absorb odors. This hypoallergenic and antibacterial fiber is also well suited for those with sensitive skin.

The color shades we use in our collection mimic the natural shades of alpaca wool. The alpaca fiber used by Ruukin Kehräämö is only dyed if the desired color is not available undyed. Dyeing is always done under supervision, using safe and responsible Reach and GOTS certified methods. The Baby Alpaca fiber used by Ruukin Kehräämö is USDA organic certified, and the Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) certificate guarantees ethical alpaca farming and fair compensation for farmers.

Linen is a strong, breathable, and dirt-repellent natural fiber. It feels cool on the skin, making it ideal for summer clothing. It is an antibacterial, ecological, and long-lasting material that softens even further with use. The linen used in the alpaca linen yarn is from Belgium. The linen fiber is undyed.
