Artisanal yarns and knitting instructions

Alpaca and angora yarns

Ruukki Spinning Mill's yarn selection includes a variety of alpaca and angora yarns. Our yarns are made only from undyed alpaca and angora rabbit fibers. The alpaca wool used in our yarns is sourced from Finland, the Netherlands, and Ireland, while the angora rabbit hair comes exclusively from Finnish breeders.

A small amount of wild silk is spun into the yarns. Kalahari wild silk is the only wild silk moth living freely in nature. The cocoons left behind by these moths are collected from the Kalahari Desert. In Finland, the silk is dyed with natural colors.

As a result of product development work, Ruukki Kehräämö's and, after 2023, Linkulla Spinneri - mill's wild silk blend yarns form a unique product family that no one else in the world manufactures. The yarn colors naturally arise from alpaca and/or angora fibers of different colors, as well as wild silk dyed with natural materials. The fibers are blended at the initial stage of the production process in a way that no one else uses.

This unique production process enables color gradients, optical color mixing, and the creation of yarn with a very vivid surface. The result is yarn that is impossible to produce through dyeing or large-scale industrial manufacturing.

Production quantities are small. The goal is not mass production, but we focus on quality. Each batch of yarn is a unique work of art, created as a result of creative work.

Our artisan yarns are high-end products in the yarn market. The thicknesses of the yarn qualities in the selection remain within a certain range, but there is no permanent color chart. Each batch is unique.

Knitting Instructions

So that the charming yarns do not remain just treasures in the yarn basket, we offer our customers knitting patterns designed for the yarns.

Our knitting patterns are versatile. The same instructions are suitable for many different yarns. Professionally written knitting patterns are clear and tested. The garments are graded in many sizes.

Instructions can be purchased from the shop as printed, beautifully illustrated booklets or digitally from our online store.
