Genuinely comfortable

Our high-quality and luxurious products are made from the best 100% Alpaca Royal alpaca fiber on the market. This 18-micron thick fiber allows for the production of very thin, uniform, and pill-resistant yarn.

The finer the alpaca fiber, the softer it feels against the skin. That's why our clothing often doesn't have the familiar itchiness associated with wool garments. You can safely wear the knit directly against bare skin. 

Alpaca fiber is a fat-free, hollow fiber that has an exceptionally good temperature regulation ability. Therefore, alpaca knits and woven alpaca fabrics are warm/cool, breathable, and lightweight. Alpaca fiber repels water and dirt, and it does not hold odors. 

Our products do not use chemicals or dyes. We trust in nature's own color palette, and thus the finished knit retains all the excellent properties typical of high-quality alpaca fiber.

Here, you dress yourself in authentic natural products. All the color shades we use are natural shades of alpaca wool. Even the black yarn is completely uncolored.

The products of Ruukin Kehräämö are designed in Finland. Our scarves are woven in a Finnish weaving mill, and our hats and socks are made in Finland. Our knitwear collection is produced in the Baltics.

Our goal is to bring quality and everyday luxury into the lives of as many people as possible. Neatly finished and high-quality knits do not wrinkle, but look polished even after long use. Thanks to the top-quality raw material, our knits do not pill, and any stretching disappears perfectly with steaming.

Carefully crafted design and breathable alpaca fiber ensure the best possible comfort. Our versatile clothing is designed to withstand the test of time and wear. Timeless, understated design extends the lifespan of the garment.

We strive to create products that remain relevant year after year. We do not have seasonal products. All our clothing stays in the collection as long as there is demand. In our clothing line, we offer not only women's and men's clothing but also unisex products.

Responsible production

We import the alpaca yarns used in our products from Peru. Our partner, the spinning mill Michell Group, carefully collects the selected Royal Alpaca quality fibers from local indigenous breeders.

This quality allows the breeder to receive double the price compared to coarser qualities. The ethical alpaca farming is backed by the RAS label (Responsible Alpaca Standard), which has been granted to all breeders supplying alpaca fiber to the Michell Group.

Our clothes are knitted to shape. This way, the amount of cutting waste can be minimized. Defective products are unraveled back into yarn or utilized as part of another product. Nothing goes to waste.

Since the dyeing process is omitted, only a small amount of water is used in production, and no chemicals are used at all, except for detergent. Additionally, we strive to use environmentally friendly alternatives in all product details. Therefore, the zippers of our cardigans are made from recycled plastic.

The knitwear is easy to maintain: keep, air and keep.

Store the sweater in an airy and dry place, protected from pests. The knitwear is refreshed and smoothed by clever steaming. The sweater can also be brushed with a clothes brush intended for delicate sweaters.

If necessary, stain removal and/or washing with wool detergent by hand or with the washing machine's hand wash program at +30°C.

Remember that we have a repair service. In case of damage, send your sweater to be repaired. This is how we together increase the useful life of knitwear and save nature.

And when your favorite sweater is completely worn out, we accept it as a material to be processed again.

1. Why don't we have any colorful knitwear? 

Ruukin Kehräämön Alpaca Royal fiber is undyed. Each color is the true color of the original wool-producing animal. In total, there are 22 basic colors of alpacas. This ensures a wide and stunningly beautiful color palette.

The absence of dyeing is an advantage for the fiber, yarn, and especially the finished knitwear. Harsh chemical processes; bleaching, dyeing, finishing, and washing wear out the fibers and break their surface structure. The natural properties of minimally processed alpaca fiber transfer directly to the garment. That is why Ruukin Kehräämön's knits are not dyed.

When the knit reaches the end of its life cycle, the fiber continues its life. Undyed, chemically untreated alpaca fiber is 100% biodegradable natural product. The knits can also be torn back into fibers and recycled for reuse.

2. Why do our products have a shipping fee?

We want you to avoid making a hasty purchasing decision and to be sure of your choice when ordering a product. In Finland, up to 50% of online store orders are returned. It has been found that postage significantly reduces the number of returns. 

On average, the largest emissions from clothing sold in online stores come from the product itself (~83%), but transportation accounts for 14% of the emissions. If the product is returned, the transportation emissions double.

We want to act responsibly towards both our customers and the environment. When you buy less, thoughtfully, and of better quality, both the environment and your wallet will thank you.

3. Why don't we have discount campaigns?

We do not support fast fashion or hasty purchasing decisions. FOMO (Fear of missing out) is a commonly used marketing tactic to get customers to buy products they may not necessarily need.

By limiting the offer to a specific time, consumers are encouraged to make impulsive purchasing decisions. Instead, we want you to be satisfied with your purchases from us and to use our products for a long time. You can always trust that our product prices remain the same, whether you shop on Black Friday or on a regular Sunday morning. 

3. How can we ensure that the yarn from Perusta is responsibly produced? 

In the Peruvian mountains, alpaca farming is the main livelihood. Up to 85% of the indigenous population's income comes from selling alpaca wool. By purchasing wool from certain farms, we can ensure that the farmer receives a fair compensation for their work. Alpacas play an important role in breaking the cycle of poverty.

Ruukin Kehräämö uses only high-quality and ethically produced RAS-certified (Responsible Alpaca Standard) alpaca wool. The breeders, who belong to Peruvian indigenous peoples, care for their small herds with respect for nature. The organization we support Quechua Benefit helps the indigenous people take care of the well-being of both their alpacas and their families.

For each batch of yarn arriving at Ruukin Kehräämö, the fibers are collected separately from local small farms. Each fiber can be traced back to the farm and even to the animal. Alpaca Royal fibers allow breeders to receive double the price compared to coarser fibers.

4. How can we ensure that neither the angora rabbits nor the alpacas suffer during the wool shearing process?

Alpacas and angora rabbits are fiber-producing animals. They have been bred to produce wool, just like merino sheep. Leaving a fiber-producing animal unshorn is harmful to the animal, as the wool does not stop growing at a certain length; instead, long and matted wool makes it difficult for the animal to move and worsens hygiene.
