Alpaca and linen

Our alpaca linen yarn is spun from a blend of Baby alpaca fiber and linen fiber. This uniquely combines the wonderful properties of two very different types of fiber. Baby alpaca makes up 70% of the fiber used in the blended yarn, and linen makes up 30%. The yarn is spun at Michell Group in Peru.

Baby alpaca fiber is lightweight, pleasantly soft, and effectively regulates heat. Thanks to the crimped structure of the fiber, air pockets are trapped between the fibers, which act as insulation. Alpaca fiber repels water and dirt, and does not absorb odors. The hypoallergenic and antibacterial fiber is also well-suited for those with sensitive skin.

The shades we use in our collection mimic the natural shades of alpaca wool. The alpaca fiber used by Ruukin Kehräämö is only dyed if the desired color is not available undyed. Dyeing is always performed using safe and responsible GOTS-certified methods. The alpaca yarns used by Ruukin Kehräämö have OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and Fair Trade Peru certifications.
